Here’s to Our Health

Seeking cures is a multibillion dollar industry.  People come and go in this life while waiting for cures.  Is the market place the best place to put our hopes?  Drug companies dominate the landscape in working for our health while costs go up, illnesses go up and faulty remedies crop up.  We the people need to examine how under funded our Health Departments are in our local community.  If prevention is worth a pound of cure then why do we pour billions into sick care instead of health care.  If we lead the world in healthcare spending dollars why aren’t we getting a better return on our investment?

We need a radical new approach to prevention and the marketplace is not designed to eradicate disease but to treat it. Health care officials in the community need to design and keep up with innovative approaches and we need to fund them.  In the age of cutting government we need to take money from the death-dealing ventures for a time and invest in health care. Emergency Medical providers gather tons of data on the illnesses that afflict us each day but that data is not shared with the Health Department.  How can the Health Department serve a community without data?  Implementing good technology in our Health Departments is a good start. Personal responsibility is certainly a key aspect of our health recovery as a nation.  How can so many people be so wrong?  We have an epidemic in this country and our local government can spur action that is focused and consistent to deal with its people’s needs.
